I am writing to ask that you add an item to the next council agenda taking action to remove Robert Judge from the Lafayette Public Library Board of Control.
Since his appointment in 2021, Mr. Judge has brought nothing but chaos and controversy to our library. In his role as board President, he has attempted to illegally fire both a beloved community librarian and now the library Director, as well as having dragged himself, LCG, and other board members into two lawsuits. He has repeatedly dragged his feet on the construction of the new Northeast Library as well as the repairs to the North and South Regional Libraries, costing taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars. He has also wasted precious library time on frivolous, controversial agenda items such as changing the library's mission statement as well as repeatedly and unnecessarily changing the board's bylaws and library collection development policies.
All of these things have, of course, cost the library money, but, perhaps just as importantly, they have cost our library its reputation. Once hailed as one of the best public libraries in Louisiana, LPL, under Mr. Judge's leadership, is now a cautionary tale of what happens to a library system when it is run by someone without experience, expertise, or the willingness to reach out for either. The time has come to set things right - gentlemen, you have the power to do just that.
